The Seasons of Life

Life, like the seasons, is constantly changing. As we grow older, the words of the Apostle James ring ever so true, "Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away" (James 4:14). And yet these words came to me before I was even saved, in a time where I could've really used some faith.

Back in 2015, on the verge of the 10 year anniversary from losing my closest cousin to suicide, I lost both of my grandfathers within the span of a few months. To say I was wrecked was an understatement as I had yet to come to know the Lord. But reading through these words now, I can't help but see His hand in this beautiful illustration of change. I pray that wherever you're at in life's season today, that you find hope in knowing that the memories of our loved ones will forever live on, and one day we will be reunited in heaven, which will be the most beautiful memory of all.

In the beginning, we're like leaves in the Spring.

Eager to branch out from the tree.

The sun comes bringing light to the scene.

The future becomes bright.

A light ignites,

It's something like a dream.

We realize that everything is not what it seems.

Roots begin to stretch deep,

But it's time to leap.

No need to fear these things.

It's time to leave.

The wind sings,

We watch as spring leaves.

Summer is a breeze,

The leaves in the trees are free.

We drift away,

So new leaves can take our place.

As we fall into fall,

The world keeps turning,

There's no time to stall.

The sun keeps burning

As time heals all.

Because in the end, it's our turn to turn into the leaves of the fall.

The green fades and turns to gray,

Hearing the sky call,

We stray away,

Where there's a better place to stay

Away from all the pain.

It's time to remember the good days.

As the sun continues to blaze,

So too will this season fade

Leaving the memories to remain.

Some leaves never have to die.

As long as the wind blows,

And the sun shows,

We can remember the leaves even when it's their time to go.

The earth keeps growing,

It's time to stay strong.

We continue knowing,

The memories live on.
