Hearing the voice of God
God”s voice is found in a whisper. Why is this the way he communicates to man? Why doesn’t He speak in a loud reverberating earth shattering tone due His Name?
In showing His majesty before Elijah, it says:
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire.
And after the fire came a gentle and quiet whisper.
Power Withheld
Imagine being Elijah as the power of God is demonstrated before you. Imagine witnessing the wind so terrible it splits a mountain apart. Yet again imagine, that after this evidence of power, God speaks to Eliajh in a gentle whisper.
Why I always wondered, why a quiet whisper?
Time had passed, and I had forgotten my unanswered question, and moved on to more pressing issues of my life.
Every morning for months I had been asking, talking, pleading, praying, and sometimes even accusing God of abondoning me through a difficult time in my life.
“God, where are You,” I accused. “Why aren’ you talking to me,” I confronted Him.
“Are you listening? Do you care? And if you don’t, then why have I spent each morning desperately trying to hear answers, as you sit silently unresponsive” I hopelessly cried.
That morning I was done. I needed to get urgent answers on my own, and God was seemingly void of communication.
Frustrated, I put on a pair of jogging shoes, deciding that a good run would alleviate the pent up anxiety, and quite frankly God’s absentism.
Hearing His whisper
I ran and vented toward life, cried at being lost and helpless, yelled at not having answers, and finally I felt peace. Finally, there were no more thoughts and no more questions to ask.
My mind was at rest.
At that moment, I heard a still small voice, a gentle whisper calling my name, and I knew instantly it was the Voice of God.
“I am here,” He said, so gently, so compassionately. “I have been here for you the moment you called upon my name.
Though I have all power, all authority in heaven and on earth, there is one realm I cannot compete with. The mind of man.
I have given free will, free choice, and freedom to think.”
"I will answer you now, about your question why I speak in a gentle whisper. It is because I will not overpower your thoughts. I will not force my will upon you. I patiently wait until you have exhausted your thoughts, and questions, finally quieting your mind. It is then when you are able to hear the great and mighty things I have for you," God revealed
“You are not an easy one, as you never stop asking long enough to hear. You ask one question, without waiting before asking the next,” I heard Him almost laughing. “Yet, I will teach you.
Silencing the mind to hear His voice.
HEARING BY TEMPERAMENTS
Finally understanding, how I needed to position myself to hear God's voice was powerful. Bar none it is the most important thing a human being can do. His voice leads, guides and strengthens us. In discovering our temperaments, we realize what works for us, and what doesn't, otherwise we are trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Recognize which temperament you are, allowing your spirit to become more sensitive to His voice.
KINETIC TEMPERAMENT: This group usually needs movement to still racing thoughts. Try
running, moving, gardening which transfers energy out of the mind ushering in peace.
HEART TEMPERAMENT: This group often quiets the mind as they worship. Music for them refocuses their thoughts and connects them to their hearts bringing them into God's
presence.
THINKERS: Journaling helps others get out of their head by active listening, purposefully training the mind not to veer off. Writing requires physical connection, preventing a wondering mind.
VISIONARIES: See in pictures rather than words. Oftentimes, a vision, an object, a scene flashes into the minds of visionaries as God interprets meaning.
NATURAL REALM; God also communicates using the natural realm. Sometimes repetitive objects as butterflies, are signs. Notice things that continue to reoccur at just the moment you ask questions. Perhaps a magazine article pops up that you are drawn to. Learn to pay attention to signs.
Silencing the mInd
God will wait until your mind is silenced before He speaks. At last all your answers will come, your guidance will come, and the plans and purposes for your future will be revealed.
You must quiet your mind to hear When God Whispers your name.
